The Community Mat Song

This song is from a sketch comedy show entitled The Yoga Show: Wealth and Hellness, written and directed by Jeb Cadwell. Contributors were Tom Vencill, Brittani Ebert, Jen Shin, Nick Vatterot, Katrina Wilman, Renee Gauthier, Angel Rodriguez.

When I’m running late
And I want to lose fat
I take a yoga class
And I borrow a mat.

The smell makes me queasy
It tests my immunity
I got it from a pile
Labeled, “Community”.

The yoga community
Is interconnected
From concrete condos
To huts of adobe.

And we support our ecosystem
That lives on our mats.
Symbiotic organisms,
Bacteria. Microscopic yogis.

My community mat has a community of its own
My community mat has a community of its own
The Fungus feed the Virus
Which calls Bacteria “home”.

My community mat has a community of its own.

Bacteria devours
Our dandruff flakes
And sips our salty
Sweaty Lakes.

As they digest
The off-gassing starts
So the sweet, Acrid Stench
Is from Bacteria farts.

The Dichloromethane species
And Anoxybacilus gather
When their colonies ferment
You smell their micro-cadavers

But none of their toxic
Bi-product is wasted,
It feeds Kineosporia
A microscopic aphid.

My community mat has a community of its own
My community mat has a community of its own
The Fungus feed the Virus
Which calls Bacteria “home”.

My community mat has a community of its own.

But the community is too soft
To reprimand
Any of its members
Who get out of hand.

My ego would be wrong,
Cruel and humongous
If I tried to ostracize my new
Foot Fungus.

My community mat has a community of its own
My community mat has a community of its own

The community is growing
A new center on my toes.

My community mat has a community of its own.
